San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl officials announced today that the 7th annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl will kick off at 5 p.m. PST on Wednesday, December 21st at Qualcomm Stadium. The bowl will air nationally on ESPN and match teams from the Mountain West Conference (MWC) and Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
Last year’s game featured a 35-14 San Diego State Aztecs victory over the Navy Midshipmen in front of a bowl record 48,049 fans. The game garnered a 2.6 national television rating on ESPN.
The MWC has sent a team to the bowl each of the games’ six years and boasts a 5-1 record. The WAC has participated in the game once before. Future Poinsettia Bowl opponents for the Mountain West Conference include Brigham Young University in 2012 and Army in 2013. Negotiations are also under way to bring the Navy Midshipmen back to San Diego for the 2014 game.
