NATIONAL HISTORY
In 1980, a group of policeman in Phoenix, Arizona fulfilled the wish of seven-year old Chris Greicius. Battling leukemia, Chris’ one ambition in life was to be a policeman. The Arizona Department of Public Safety equipped him with a uniform, helmet and badge and made Chris an honorary patrolman. Chris died just days later and was buried in his uniform and given a police funeral with full honors. From that humble beginning, the Make-A-Wish Foundation spread throughout the country and abroad to become the largest wish granting organization in the world, with 74 chapters in the United States and 28 international affiliates. |

SAN DIEGO CHAPTER
Since its inception in December of 1983, the San Diego Chapter of Make-A-Wish has granted more than 1,700 wishes to children in San Diego and Imperial Counties. We expect to grant more than 170 wishes this year. The chapter has a staff of nine employees and hundreds of dedicated volunteers. |

SUPPORT
The Make-A-Wish Foundation relies on the generosity of individual, corporate and organization donations, our own special events, workplace giving campaigns, bequests, grants, in-kind donations, and external events like the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. Over 80% of monies raised goes directly toward granting wishes. The average cost to fulfill a wish is $6,000.
